Hi, my name is Les and I’ll be your guide today. Hang on, this is not America, I’ll take a wee dram and start again.

For the past couple of years I’ve been an avid reader of, and sometime commenter on, the Western Isles section of the old BBC Island Blogging site (sorry other Islanders, I am sure you are just as interesting) and reading the various blogs it struck me that quite a lot of the bloggers were ‘ordinary’ folk who were not particularly computer-savvy and who probably joined Island Blogging because it was easy and they didn’t have to set everything up. There were certainly others who obviously knew their way around a computer and the Internet and those folk will find blogging on this new site, using WordPress, a breeze. What if you are a bit scared of setting everything up though? Or just want to jot down your thoughts without having to plough through a lot of ‘computer stuff’? You may have things to do like feeding the chickens or tending the croft. At the very least each and every one of you have the distraction of some fabulous scenery on your doorstep and that is much more tempting than spending hours sitting at the computer. Isn’t it?

This blog is for those of you who might need a helping hand or just don’t want to spend hours figuring out how to get the best out of your blog. Those of you who are confident enough, or knowledgeable enough, to plough on without assistance can pass on by or, better still, can leave comments here to help make things clearer or plug the gaps that I will, inevitably, leave.

What I intend to do is write a series of articles, or tutorials, covering everything you need to know about blogging with your new WordPress blog (of which this is one). I’ll assign categories to each one so that you can just look in the sidebar to see if the thing you want to know about is there. If not you can always ask questions via Comments and, in time, we’ll build up a huge knowledgebase so that anyone can become an Island Blogger.

My name is Les and I have been pleased to be your guide today (oh do stop it, please!)

PS - Check the Scottish Islands page at the top to see if you are the first blogger from your island
